Volunteering at the Birkdale Beach Haven Community Project

Birkdale Beach Haven Community Project are grateful to all of our volunteers that help with our events and regular programmes.

Below are some of the ways that you can get involved and give back to your local community:

Community Eats: Every Monday we have a community food programme that supports our local whānau in need. We require volunteers to help us sort, pack and distribute kai to these whānau.

House Hosts: We have the opportunity for local volunteers to assist us at both the Beach Haven Community House and Birkdale Community House - welcoming visitors, making tea and coffee, answering the phones, and supporting our staff in keeping our houses looking their best.

Repair Cafe: Regular repair cafes are held throughout the Kaipātiki Community Houses, and we need volunteers with skills to repair broken items and support the public to reuse and recycle items rather than throw them away! We also appreciate any 'house hosts' to support these cafes to run smoothly on the day - serving drinks and food, and welcoming visitors.

Event Support: Throughout the year we host and attend a number of local community events. There are always opportunities for volunteers to be a part of these - learning valuable event management and organisation skills, interacting with the local community and supporting valuable causes.

Kids at #134 School Holiday Programme: We offer a volunteer placement programme. Students aged 14 years or older can apply to become a volunteer leader, working alongside our staff to care for school aged tamariki during the holidays. This provides valuable work experience in child care skills, planning, leadership and responsibility.
